Programm

Orthograde endodontic retreatment requires not only an in-depth understanding of root canal anatomy but also proficiency in specialised techniques for managing complex clinical situations.

This course focuses on a systematic approach to endodontic retreatment, from assessing the causes of persistent apical periodontitis and controlling intracanal infection to addressing the technical challenges encountered during retreatment.

What you will learn:

— Plan retreatment: Identify the causes of primary treatment failure and select an appropriate retreatment strategy.

— Negotiate complex canals: Locate and negotiate calcified and hidden canals, including MB2, and manage canals with severe curvature.

— Remove filling materials and posts: Explore techniques for removing different root canal filling materials and intracanal posts.

— Overcome iatrogenic obstacles: Bypass canal ledges, manage false canals and navigate complex root canal anatomy.

— Retrieve separated instruments: Learn ultrasonic, loop-based and other techniques for bypassing and retrieving separated instrument fragments.

IMPORTANT: the “Seminar. Standard”, “Seminar. VIP” and “Hands-on workshop” participation options are also available for purchase.

Advantages of the “Comfort” participation option:

– Access to the scientific programme

– Coffee breaks

– Course materials

– Certificate of attendance

– ADA credits available upon request

– Lunch

– Priority seats in the venue.

Program

A full day of lectures covering the principles, possibilities, limitations and techniques of orthograde endodontic retreatment.

1. Principles of Endodontic Retreatment

— Causes of persistent apical periodontitis and the objectives of infection control

— Principles and limitations of coronal disassembly, canal renegotiation and orthograde endodontic retreatment.

2. Management of Calcified Root Canals

— Freehand techniques for locating and negotiating calcified root canals

— Planning and use of surgical guides for the management of calcified root canals.

3. Removal of Root Canal Filling Materials and Posts

— Techniques for removing root canal filling materials

— Removal of cast metal and fibre posts: clinical approaches and technical challenges.

4. Canal Ledges, False Canals and Complex Anatomy

— Bypassing iatrogenic canal ledges and managing false canals

— Management of canal splitting and internal root resorption.

5. Identification and Negotiation of Hidden and Severely Curved Canals

— Identification and negotiation of the second mesiobuccal canal (MB2) and other hidden canals

— Management of S-shaped canals, abrupt canal curvatures and root dilacerations.

6. Management of Separated Endodontic Instruments

— Prevention of instrument separation, with strategies for bypassing and retrieving separated fragments

— Wedging techniques, ultrasonic techniques, the tube-and-glue technique and loop techniques
