Anterior Aesthetics: An Orthodontic-Multidisciplinary Perspective

The interdisciplinary management of anterior dents-facial aesthetics in the modern era has become the mainstay of modern dental practice within most dental specialties. The subjectivity of aesthetic judgements and differences between professional and lay people regarding the most commonly shared “standards of beauty” - as well as their constant fluctuation through time - have pushed clinicians to attempt to clarify and standardize these methods of assessment and treatment planning so that we can more easily and consistently communicate, plan and apply existing and future treatment techniques for the benefit of our patients.

This presentation is aimed towards orthodontists as well as other dental practitioners interested in interdisciplinary management of dento-facial aesthetic problems, where the most modern approaches to interdisciplinary management of anterior dental aesthetics will be discussed, focusing on Macro, Mini, and Micro Aesthetics.

It will demonstrate the importance of “holistic thinking” in dentistry, and showcase how orthodontic treatment can be an important foundational block for successful aesthetic treatments in most cases. It also aims to clarify the current standards of assessment, treatment planning and care required by practitioners working together in a multi-disciplinary setting, so that they would better be able to communicate, think and act harmoniously during the various stages of treatment, particularly where orthodontic treatment is required.

Biofilm or Forces are the Enemy of Orthodontic Patient Affected from Periodontitis? Evidence and Therapies

Orthodontic treatments are reaching more optimal results every day in terms of aesthetic and health parameters, achieving the maximum in terms of patient satisfaction and medical targets. Unfortunately, the increasing percentage of patients affected by Periodontal Disease and Oral Dysbiosis is a very frequent comorbidity and this clinical situation needs to be treated before the Orthodontic treatment. Periodontitis is an inflammatory and multi-factorial disease that, as we now know, is linked with other systemic diseases such as CV disease, type 2 Diabetes, Pre-term birth and many others.

These Systemic diseases can have a very negative effect not only on patients, but also the population in general and particularly the economic environment of hospitals. The possibility to diagnose, find and treat Inflammatory Periodontal Disease is a condition and necessity that international research and Scientific Literature has been demonstrated as mandatory over the last ten years. Through an attentive examination of the evidence in Literature, with a few clinical cases and examples, the presentation will describe the delicate and correct Ortho-Perio LINK, giving very useful tricks and tips for a successful and healthy clinical treatment both in Perio and Ortho. We will focus on the EFP Guidelines and on all the options that dentist-Orthodontist- Dental Hygienist have to know and practice for the surgical phases of the therapy but also for the ‘so effective’ Periodontal Supportive Therapy.

Pushing Boundaries of Aligner Therapy

10% of the world's population have severe periodontal disease. With orthodontics we can greatly help patients who suffer from periodontal disease by improving recessions, promoting bone formation, improving access to hygiene, etc. For all this, in this lecture I want to talk about how and when to treat these patients to help them improve their health.

On the other hand, there is currently an epidemic of oral breathing that is producing serious consequences on the general health of our patients. With aligners we can improve airflow in the airways, and also improving the health of our patients. We are going to see complex cases treated with ClearCorrect and how we have improved their health with orthodontic treatment with aligners.

The «ACTIVE EARLY» Approach for an Efficient Orthodontic Practice
 

Begin with the end in mind is one of the most important philosophies in Pitts 21 protocol. Initiating the wanted forces and moment within the appliance as early in treatment as possible, using SAP bracket position to adjust vertical position of the incisors for smile arc, inverting groups of brackets (flipped and flocked) as needed to activate torsion in the appliance sooner in treatment ,using ESLE to control forces and moments with appropriate disarticulation to encourage specific tooth movements .This has become known as an «ACTIVE EARLY» approach to case management in order to create new smiles with simple mechanics while being efficient.
