Spezialist für orofaziale Schmerzen und Dekan des College of Dentistry der University of Kentucky. Gründer und Direktor des Orofacial Pain Center an der University of Kentucky (gegründet 1977), anerkannt als Pionier in der Ausbildung zu CMD und orofazialen Schmerzen.

 

Über 50 Jahre akademische und klinische Erfahrung bei temporomandibulären Störungen und orofazialem Schmerzmanagement. Entwickelte das erste Master of Science Degree-Programm für orofaziale Schmerzen in den Vereinigten Staaten, akkreditiert von der American Academy of Orofacial Pain. Das Orofacial Pain Residency Program gehörte zu den ersten, die von der Commission on Dental Accreditation akkreditiert wurden, und graduierte 65 Vollzeit-Residenten aus 26 Ländern.

 

Professor und Leiter der Abteilung für orofaziale Schmerzen, Vollzeit-Fakultätsmitglied an der University of Kentucky seit 45 Jahren. Internationaler Referent, der über 1.300 eingeladene Vorträge in jedem Bundesstaat der USA und 59 ausländischen Ländern gehalten hat. DMD der University of Kentucky (1974). Provost's Distinguished Service Professor. Autor des Lehrbuchs „Management von temporomandibulären Störungen und Okklusion (8. Auflage), übersetzt in 11 Sprachen und an der Mehrheit der US-Zahnmedizinschulen verwendet. Herausgeber von „Orofaziale Schmerzen: Leitlinien für Klassifikation, Bewertung und Management" (AAOP), weltweit als Behandlungsstandards verwendet. Über 240 Veröffentlichungen in wissenschaftlichen Fachzeitschriften. Ehemaliger Präsident der American Academy of Orofacial Pain. Gründungsdiplomierter und zweimaliger ehemaliger Präsident des American Board of Orofacial Pain. Empfänger des University of Kentucky Great Teacher Award, State of Kentucky Acorn Award, International Dentist of the Year Award der Academy of Dentistry International und aufgenommen in die University of Kentucky Hall of Distinguished Alumni.
