Module 3 of the Comprehensive Kois Concept Training!
This seminar focuses on a systematic approach to diagnosing and treating patients with tooth wear and functional occlusal disorders. Participants will master how to progress from diagnostic screening to full reconstruction of the vertical dimension of occlusion and functional rehabilitation of the stomatognathic system.
What you will learn:
— Principles for managing and therapeutically modifying the vertical dimension of occlusion
— Using lateral cephalometry and facial analysis to define the aesthetic and functional limits of tooth positioning
— Differential diagnosis of tooth wear using the P1–P3 classification
— Integrating aligner therapy in full-mouth rehabilitation to create restorative space and optimize occlusion
— The Kois digital protocol: combining digital scans, scan bodies, and the Kois Deprogrammer in the diagnostic workflow.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
— Plan full-mouth rehabilitation for patients with pathological tooth wear
— Determine the optimal vertical dimension of occlusion and incisal edge position
— Create restorative space with minimal tooth preparation
— Design a functionally stable occlusion tailored to the patient’s neuromuscular characteristics
— Apply the Kois 10-step protocol to analyze and plan complex clinical cases.
IMPORTANT: the “Comfort” and “VIP” participation options are also available for purchase.
Basic advantages of the “Standard” option:
– Participation in the scientific program
– Coffee break
– Notes and handouts
– Certificate of participation
– ADA credits available upon request.
Program
Objective: Master the transition from diagnostic screening to systematic reconstruction of the vertical and functional parameters of occlusion.
Treatment Planning (09:30 – 12:30)
— Managing the Vertical Dimension of Occlusion:
- Move beyond traditional Centric Relation (CR) concepts to therapeutically modify the vertical dimension of occlusion.
— Lateral Cephalometry and Facial Analysis:
- Use lateral cephalometric tracings to define the aesthetic and functional limits of incisal edge position and anterior-posterior (AP) tooth placement.
— Pathological Tooth Wear (P1, P2, P3):
- Differential diagnosis of tooth wear: identify constricted chewing envelopes and occlusal dysfunction.
Functional Treatment Planning (13:30 – 17:00)
— Aligner Therapy in Full-Mouth Rehabilitation:
- Face-oriented aligner therapy designed to optimize aesthetics and function.
— Maximizing Aesthetics:
- Correct overjet and overbite while aligning gingival margins for ideal incisal edge positioning.
— Minimizing Tooth Preparation:
- Move teeth strategically to create restorative space while preserving natural enamel for optimal adhesion.
— Functional Optimization:
- Align tooth segments to improve the chewing trajectory and reduce functional risk (P3) prior to finalizing occlusion.
— Kois Digital Workflow:
- Integrate digital scan bodies and the Kois Deprogrammer into digital data capture for predictable full-arch rehabilitation.
Segmental or Full-Arch Reconstruction
— Segmental Protocol:
- Stepwise management of the dental arch that accounts for patient-specific biological and financial considerations while maintaining the vertical dimension of occlusion.
— Occlusion Design:
- Tailor occlusion to the patient’s neuromuscular and functional characteristics.
— Case Analysis:
- Review complex full-mouth rehabilitation cases using the Kois 10-step protocol.
