This comprehensive hands-on workshop with Dr. Jean-Daniel Orthlieb provides a complete clinical workflow for TMD diagnosis and occlusal management, combining clinical examination, MRI, condylography, therapeutic decision-making, and practical CR registration.

 

During the theoretical part of the course, you will learn about:

 

– TMJ function, strengths, and vulnerabilities
– General concepts and diagnostic classification of TMDs
– Clinical examination and functional testing
– The relationship between TMD and occlusion
– When occlusion should be modified in TMD patients
– Therapeutic options and the rationale for treatment selection
– Clinical assessment and functional diagnostic protocols

– The role of occlusal splints. 

 

During the hands-on part of the course, participants will:

 

– Perform clinical examination and functional testing based on documented clinical cases
– Analyze MRI and condylography findings
– Practice therapeutic decision-making based on real clinical cases
– Perform CR registration and mandibular manipulation into centric relation (CR).

 

The course is a must-attend for functional dentists, prosthodontists, and orthodontists who manage patients with occlusal disorders and TMD.

Theory

 

– The TMJ: strengths and vulnerabilities
– Understanding TMJ disorders
– TMDs: general concepts
– Diagnostic classification of TMDs and TMJ disorders
– When should occlusion be modified in TMD patients?
– Therapeutic options and the rationale for treatment selection
– The Role of Occlusal Splints. 

 

Day 2

 

Hands-on Workshop

 

— TMD: Clinical Examination. (Hands-on exercises in pairs)
— TMD: Interactive Diagnostic Exercises Based on Documented Real Clinical Cases by Jean Daniel Orthlieb.
 

— Clinical examination:
 

- MRI, and condylography
- Diagnosis and therapeutic decision-making.
 

— Centric Relation Registration: Manipulation and Recording (Analog and Digital). (Hands-on exercises in pairs).

 

– Objectives and Techniques for the Hands-on Workshop:
 

- Learn mandibular manipulation techniques based on a myostabilized centric relation
- Use the Prefabricated Anterior Stop (BAP) provided to each participant
- Understand the specific requirements for the digital recording of centric relation.

Received his doctorat in dentistry (DDS) in 1978 from the Faculty of Dentistry, Aix-Marseille University, France.

He was certified in Anthropology in 1979, in fixed prosthodontic and Occlusodontology in 1980.

He received his master (DSO) in 1983.

He became assistant in fixed prosthodontic department in 1985.

He received his Doctorat d`Universite  – University thesis- in 1990 (PhD).

In 1993 he was associated professor, Chairman of the Occlusion and Dysfunction department of Faculty of Dentistry of Marseille. In this university, he manages a postgraduate education program in occlusion and TMD and a postgraduate education program in fixed prosthetic.

From 2007, he is Full Professor of University. He is Visiting professor of Donau University.

He was President of the French National College of Occlusodontology in 1995-96.

He is member of the European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders.

He was President of International Academy of Advanced Interdisciplinary Dentistry (iAAID).

He had published 6 books and more than 130 scientific papers about occlusion, TMD and prosthodontics.
