Professor und Leiter der Kieferorthopädie an der Faculty of Dentistry der University of Otago, Neuseeland, Leiter des Postgraduate Programme in Orthodontics, Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry, und Direktor des Craniofacial Research Programme. Seine klinische Tätigkeit ist ausschließlich auf Kieferorthopädie beschränkt. Er ist European Board Certified Specialist in Orthodontics mit mehr als 30 Jahren klinischer Erfahrung.
Er ist eine international anerkannte Forschungsautorität für Kieferfunktion, Bruxismus, orofaziale Muskulatur und Kiefergelenkbiomechanik. Seine Forschung wurde durch Fördermittel von über 1 Million Euro aus europäischen und neuseeländischen Förderprogrammen unterstützt. Er erhielt den Alan Docking Award der International Association for Dental Research, den Sir John Walsh Award und den Research Supervisor of the Year Award der University of Otago im Jahr 2021. Er ist Associate Editor von Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research und dem Korean Journal of Orthodontics sowie Mitglied des Editorial Board des Journal of Oral Rehabilitation. Er hielt Vorträge in 22 Ländern.
