Root perforations may occur due to pathological or iatrogenic reasons. Diagnosis is sometimes difficult, but clinical history, radiographic and clinical features usually lead us to understand what is happening. To get a clearer picture, CBCT is an outstanding tool. This information is fundamental to determine the size and location, and hence choose the best treatment option. Several factors contribute to the prognosis, which is in many cases favorable after the correct treatment.

Wegbereiter für die Einführung des Operationsmikroskops und mikrochirurgischer Techniken in Endodontie und Zahnmedizin in Portugal im Jahr 1995. Direktor der postgradualen und Fachspezialisierungsprogramme für Endodontie an der FMDUL, verantwortlich für die Ausbildung von Generationen endodontischer Spezialisten.
Internationaler Dozent mit Lehrtätigkeit in über 15 Ländern, darunter Brasilien, Frankreich, Deutschland, Italien, Japan, Südkorea, Südafrika, Spanien, Schweden und die Schweiz. Gutachter bei Promotionsverteidigungen in Lissabon, Coimbra, Porto, Valencia, Pretoria und Ribeirão Preto. Autor von ca. 60 wissenschaftlichen Artikeln, Konferenzbeiträgen und 6 Buchkapiteln.
