Direktor des LSU Orofacial Pain Continuum, eines umfassenden postgradualen Fortbildungsprogramms für orofaziale Schmerzen für praktizierende Kliniker. Zuvor Assistant Professor und Direktor der Oral Medicine/Orofacial Pain Clinic am College of Dentistry der University of Illinois at Chicago (2005–2011). Vor der akademischen Laufbahn: 22 Jahre allgemeinzahnärztliche Tätigkeit sowohl im öffentlichen Gesundheitswesen als auch in privater Praxis (1980–2002).
Autor und Koautor von mehr als 80 peer-reviewten Publikationen zu orofazialen Schmerzen, Kiefergelenkstörungen, Burning-Mouth-Syndrom und Kopfschmerzen. Autor von mehr als 25 Buchkapiteln in führenden Lehrbüchern der Zahnmedizin und Schmerzmedizin. Mitwirkender am Merck/MSD Manual (Professional Edition) zum Thema orofaziale Schmerzen. Mitherausgeber von drei bedeutenden Referenzwerken: Orofacial Pain: Guidelines for Assessment, Diagnosis, and Management (AAOP, 7th edition, Quintessence, 2023); Manual of Temporomandibular Disorders (Wiley-Blackwell); und Temporomandibular Disorders: A Translational Approach from Basic Science to Clinical Applicability. Associate Editor und Editorial Reviewer für mehrere Fachzeitschriften in Zahnmedizin und Schmerzmedizin.
